Lionel Richie to headline Greenbrier casino opening

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- The Greenbrier's $80 million underground casino -- The Casino Club -- will open July 2, with a special performance by singer/songwriter Lionel Richie, the resort announced Thursday.
Richie has had many top-10 hits, including "Truly," "Hello," and "Say You, Say Me."
A "call to trumpets" and ribbon-cutting ceremony will start the grand opening. Guests will walk the red carpet to a black-tie dinner.

The Greenbrier is offering a grand-opening package for July 2. The package includes $300 in match game vouchers per person and a commemorative gift. Reservations are limited.

Rates are $1,200 per person, single occupancy, or $2,000 per couple, double occupancy. If you don't stay overnight, you can still attend the event for $850 per person. For reservations, call 877-322-2876.

The Casino Club, a 102,000-square-foot underground facility, will feature gaming, restaurants, lounges and retail boutiques. The décor, by Carleton Varney of the Dorothy Draper & Co. design firm, will continue The Greenbrier's interior look with bright, bold colors and ornate design elements.

Roulette, blackjack, baccarat, craps, three-card poker and Texas hold 'em will be available for resort guests and members. In addition, 320 slot machines, including refitted vintage silver-dollar machines, will cover the perimeter of the lower level. Greenbrier Royale, a private high-limit room, will be available "for those who wish to raise the stakes," the resort said in a release.
The Greenbrier's newest tradition will be a champagne toast each night at the Casino Club, where the Belles and Gentlemen performance group will take center stage.

At 10 p.m. each night, all play will stop, and the performance will take place at the grand marble staircase. The performers, trained by two New York-based choreographers, will then dance to "The Greenbrier Waltz," an original musical composition by Greenbrier County native Tony Nalker.

Located beside the casino floor are two new restaurants - In-Fusion and Twelve Oaks. In-Fusion, an Asian fusion restaurant with a sushi bar, will feature Pacific Rim cuisine and cocktails infused with citrus and fresh herbs. The Twelve Oaks lounge is a refined setting with a stately equestrian theme, the resort said.

The mezzanine level, known as Greenbrier Avenue, offers retail boutiques for women and men, as well as jewelry.

Adjoining Greenbrier Avenue will be the relocated Draper's and Café Carleton. Open 24 hours a day, Draper's will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as desserts. As a compliment to Draper's, Café Carleton, named for Draper's protégé, Carleton Varney, will be a traditional coffee house where professional baristas create signature drinks amid murals and marble accents.
